How We Began
In the fall of 2022, a small group of individuals gathered beneath the shade of a hickory tree on a summer afternoon to discuss the idea of bringing together more like-minded people who could network and share their experiences. As our conversation progressed, it became clear that we should organize an event to showcase various aspects and skills related to homesteading. As news spread of our upcoming 2023 conference, we piqued the interest of established homesteaders who were eager to share their knowledge and experiences to become our speakers. Our sole sponsor, Spears Bee Farm, donated a page on their website dedicated to the event and sponsored advertisements to homesteaders across Iowa, inviting them to join us for this upcoming gathering. By the day of the event, we had filled two full days with speakers, drew in a few vendors, and attracted enough attendees to fill the available classrooms. From such humble beginnings, Homesteaders of Iowa began to take shape.
